This weekend was the awesome success of the Fortune Favours, and newest works of the Stevania Series, for the Fashion Show at the Spring Gala.  And upcoming the great profile piece in Design & Living Magazine, more events and projects, all before my trip to Italy for research.

Fashion Show at the Plains Art Museum
The fashion show at the Spring Gala of the Plains Art Museum had about 1,000 people!  Wow!  There are so many people involved in the success of the fashion show- from models, to stylists, museum crew, committees, the dj, and more.  And the one thousand people that watched, clapped and cheered on the models and celebrated the works.  It was an unforgettable evening with a great crew.

Profile story in Home & Living Magazine
The May/June 2013 issue of Design & Living Magazine there is an engaging story of the leathers .  Amanda Ahrenholz has written a fun profile piece, with photos by J. Alan.  I am very excited for it! Thanks to both of them for a fun experience.

Spring Fling on Sunday 19 May 2013

The Greenline, Revisits
Ideas for The Greenline, Revisits (continuing the research of the series) are underway.  For those that may not have seen the great works (and photo by Yvonne Denault), at the end of the email is one photograph of the crew wearing the Greenline, Garden Party Series from May 2012. Over the next few months I am looking at ideas for new directions with these works.  If you have thoughts to add to the pool- let me know!

Leather Cuffs with Braille for the CSA for The Arts Partnership
On Tuesday, 7 May 2013, the Arts Partnership had its first (of three) CSA events.  Proudly, I was selected as an artist for this event with works of the Leather Cuffs.  A photo of one of the leather cuffs is at the end of this email.

The Fortune Favours Leather Series focus on wearable leather artworks.  For the CSA creations of wearable leatherworks which wrap around a wrist with braille.

The rivets spell out words in braille.  Together, the words are all part of a piece of inspirational literature written by Myrna Hoekstra titled “Choose to Be One”.

When you run your fingers over it, you feel the texture on your finger as well as on the skin where the bottom of the rivets are, reminding one of the words on the piece.  Words or phrases of inspiration, the wearable leather designs encourages sharing of the works between people, exchanging words and therefore having a dialogue.

The experience using words coming from an inspirational local writer with only the original designs being created an element of exclusivity and pride for the wearer of the design.  The soft leather wears well, softening even more with the human contact and experience of the piece.

With my want to create designs which utilize a variety of my knowledge and visions, Fortune Favours explores looking at innovative approaches to chronicling life through wearable arts.

Italy Travels for June 2013
For those people that are ordering leathers for their riding season or their summer leathers or their own original collections- I am happy to say that my upcoming trip to Italy is already inspiring some great design even before I arrive.  I will be spending 2 weeks in June traveling back to NYC, then Italy (Rome and Palermo) and then Amsterdam.  The ideas for leather fashions and other Green works, food works and mostly a combination of them all are all in mind

The Journeys.

In hindsight, it is interesting how these 12 pieces in the series chronicle my past 6 months, from mid August 2012 thru the early February 2013 photoshoot. A major shift and challenge surfaced in mid August 2012 and the resulting journey has been- one I am bettered for.  It starts from wanting armor, safety and a hug for myself- to giving the works and choices to other people of significance in my life during this time for their body signatures, experiences and stories.  It has become a physical wearable narrative of my journeys and experiences.   The art can touch people because I choose to let people into my world to experience and celebrate it.  There is much gratitude and celebration for everyone who participates in the pieces and in my life.

A short leather jacket with a series of hugs from dear man. Lined with a comfortable sweatshirt, this motorcycle jacket has zippers on the sleeves as well as the front.  The dear man is painted with a series of warm colors, then hugged onto the jacket many times in a row.  The comforts of being hugged and held, with the contentment of a warm worn sweatshirt are the energies of this stylish jacket.

Spooning is a long leather coat, lined with vibrant blue silk and closed snaps with spikes. The sweet man is painted with colors, then comfortingly and dearly spoons the coat with the wearer.  Accented with short stud spikes for personality on the great cuff as well as spikes on the dramatic trails- the jacket moves with grace and elegance when one walks.

I Am is inspired by a spiritual thought.  The dramatic cuffs, pendulum painted back, and rivets in braille are the unique elements of this winter jacket.  The first layer is inspired by my former father in law, a priest.  Adding to that layer are more contemporary practices of faiths.  The next layer is by Saree who sees grids of energy, and laying of hands for Reiki.  The next layer, Kimba creates for balance.  This winter jacket has rivets which spell out words in braille.  When you run your fingers over it, you are reminded of words to inspire you.  On the front is the phrase “Yes!”; on the back shoulder blades spells “wings of love” and “wings of trust”.

My amazing missus’ see the body in a different way than I.  This is a leather hoodie, with a zippered hood which allows  the hood to be smoothly draped over your shoulders or zippered up for a dramatic hood over your head.  Painted by the hands of my missus who sees energy movements in the body, and light, colors and forms when she massages people.  This hoodie is painted as a part of a back massage in how she saw the energy that day.

Jetbd has great arms- strong, large, comforting, and full of character and stories.  I have borrowed his arms countless times for immeasurable things.  His arms are great for my soul.  In this piece, Jetbd choose the colors of the paints and discusses the arm gestures for the best memories.  The deep violet stain accents the few select bright rich colors of Jetbd’s arms.

Cindy is a healer who experiences people’s energy and stories directly thru her.  In this piece she uses paints to illustrate her experience of people’s energy.  The sleeves have patterned leather and are twisted around the arm for a wing effect held with a brass chain.  Gold silk lining brings out the warmth and vibrancy of the reds.

Amy created a second piece using Sacred Geometry.  She saw a timeline of how things grow and change in the time she has known me to the future- and she painted it.  Wow, my timeline through someone else’s eyes.  How impressive to see me thru her eyes.  How inspiring to live it.  This dress has untanned leather-which is light in color, and is affected by sunlight.  This dress will change in color over a period of time, darkening in sunlight until it is fully darker in tanning.

Wes is a master numerologist- though that is merely a part of how I appreciate him.  He laughs and hears the deeper truth about things during the challenges I have entered, and shines his light brighter to remind me of mine.  The shirt is his way of seeing energies.  The energy rises from the earth upward, and energy comes from above downward- both meeting at the heart.  From the heart the energy radiates outward, like wings, and spreads down the arms to others.
